- Award : Emerging Director Jury of Al Ard Doc Film Festival
13 March 2022.
A documentary by Doris Hakim.
“Liwan” tells the story of the “culture café” of that name in Nazareth, which opened in 2016 in a period when the old market of Nazareth was a no-go area, run down following an Israeli “redevelopment” project for the year 2000. Despite having the odds stacked against them, they opened the café, and many new businesses and cultural spaces have opened in their wake, driving a revival of the souq. They see their role as ‘cultural resistance’, and they organise cultural and political activities that focus on the Palestinian identity.
