Oceanic feeling is a psychological term of Romain Rolland and popularized by Sigmund Freud to criticize the psychological feeling of religion, the “oceanic” feeling of limitlessness. According to Rolland this feeling is the source of all religious energy in various religious systems.

This projects deals with the relation between tide and time. The ocean itself as an artistic instrument, comparing it to our human body. The other material is clay, product of the ocean, connecting it with human behavior- in this case negative feelings/emotions that we generate. Writing these feelings on stones from the ocean, with clay, referring to ourselves and our power (ocean) to “wash” them, or not.

Tides and water have the power to destroy and at the same time to create, to let reborn. Water is often associated with emotions. It also represents maternity, primal feelings associated with our mother, the womb, the beginning of life (as mother earth, God etc.).  Water is symbol of purification and life giving substance.  As human beings we are born out of water. The womb is an echo from the ocean out of which all life is originating.

Water was always a spiritual symbol. Most rituals used and use water as a mean to clear-purify the body and soul. We are spirits covered in material form (earth-clay), being clean is a form of preparation for one’s body to act as a medium between the spiritual and physical realms.
