Persephone has a double function of chthonic (subterranean) and a vegetation Goddess (as Kore) daughter of Zeus and Dimitra, Kore as Goddess of nature who both produces and destroys. After her abduction by Hades (the God of the underworld) she spent half of her time in the underworld and half of the time on earth.
In Crete she was worshiped in a festival called Thesmophoria, to which only women could participate, it began with a purification of cleansing in the sea, after which the participants withdrew into cabins made of leaves, sitting on beds of plants, for man it was forbidden to know about this ritual.

Perséfone tiene una doble función una subterránea y una de vegetación, esta doble función crea y destruye también conocida como la Reina de los Muertos. El río era la frontera entre la vida y el otro mundo. Pasó la mitad de su tiempo en el mundo terrenal y la mitad del tiempo en la tierra. Ella era la figura central en los ritos de Eleusis.
En Creta, donde era adorada en un festival, al que solo las mujeres podrían participar, llamado Thesmoforia, comenzó con una purificación de la limpieza en el mar, después de que los participantes se retiraran a sus cabañas hechas de hojas, sentadas en las camas de plantas.
