Marriage is traditionally the destiny offered to women by society. Most women are married or have been, or plan to be or suffer from not being. (De Beauvoir, 2011: 502)
In the cultures of the Middle East when a girl has the menstrual flow for the first time, she becomes a fertile woman, ready to reproduce. The woman is subjected to this rhythm and has to accept the “responsibilities”. In addition, in patriarchal societies and in religions, menstruation is considered a symbol of contamination, and the woman who has her menstrual flow has an impure body and some biblical texts argue that the menstruating woman must be isolated for some days, under the precept of being a danger to the community.
El destino que la sociedad propone tradicionalmente a la mujer es el matrimonio. La mayor parte de las mujeres, todavía hoy, están casadas, lo han estado, se disponen a estarlo o sufren por no estarlo. La soltera se define con relación al matrimonio, ya sea una mujer frustrada, sublevada o incluso indiferente con respecto a esa institución. (De Beauvoir,2011: 502)
En las culturas de Oriente Medio cuando una niña tiene el flujo menstrual por primera vez, se convierte en mujer fértil, lista para reproducirse. La mujer está sometida a este ritmo y tiene que aceptar las “responsabilidades” violencias contra ella como mujer. Además, en las sociedades patriarcales y en la religión la menstruación es considerada símbolo de contaminación, y la mujer que tiene su flujo menstrual tiene un cuerpo impuro. La menstruación es algo “asqueroso” y algunos textos bíblicos argumentan en sus páginas que la mujer menstruante debe estar algunos días aislada, bajo el precepto de ser un peligro para la comunidad
